If you’re looking for an electric bicycle with tons of style, motorcycle styling, and solid performance, then the Marrs Cycles electric cruiser might be just the ticket for you - when it’s available, that is.
This electric bicycle is hand-made in southern California by a small team of e-bike enthusiasts that started the company in 2007. Their stated mission: “To handcraft the highest quality electric cruisers that ride like motorcycles, but can fall under the same jurisdiction as bicycle.” And from the picture, specs, and video, it looks like they’ve achieved their goal with this electric beach cruiser.
Marrs hand-crafts the entire bicycle from scratch, including the frame, handlebars, and leaf-spring fronts ends. This e-bike uses Metzeler motorcycle tires with 10 gauge motorcycle spokes, which gives it a beefy old-school moto look. Stopping power comes from an Avid 4-piston hydraulic brake and large 9 inch rear rotor.
The electric cruiser builds on the retro styling of the frame and wheels with high-quality motorcycle components including Excel rims, and a sweet-looking old-school springer solo motorcycle seat.
Marrs has not been as forthcoming about the details of the bike’s electric drive train, but they claim that it will be powered “by the most potent rear hub-motor system available” - which means the motor could be as powerful as 700 watts and still fall under electric bicycle regulations. Assuming that, this e-bike should easily do 20 mph without any problem.
The Marrs electric cruiser is definitely meant to be primarily driven via electric motor power - this e-bike does not have a pedal-assist feature, and from the looks of the picture only has a single gear as well.
The battery is housed in a stylish wood veneer battery box which is incorporated into the bike’s frame design. Again, no details yet on battery type or capacity, but we guess it’s probably going to be lithium-ion and probably be rated for at least 15aH, giving this bike an estimated range of 10-15 miles using motor power only.
Marrs Cycles has indicated that the electric beach cruiser “starts at” $6,499, so this is not a cheap toy by any means. No word yet on availability, but they do have an email address posted on their web site for those interested in finding out when the Marrs cruiser will be available for preorder.
